Was speaking with Susan of the Rambling Sailors this weekend, and she mentioned that they are each trying to introduce a new song each weekend. I think that's a grand idea, so - in true Irish fashion - I'm swiping it and giving credit. Since we're at 3 weekends in and I wasn't thinking on it then, I think I'll just make a list of the songs I've added so far: - Phil the Fluther's Ball
- Northwest Passage
- Leaves in the Wind
... ... okay, so I thought there were more than that so far. Anyway, this past weekend was the first weekend I made a concerted effort to add a new song that I hadn't worked on a ton in the past.
So last weekend, I debuted my rendition of Saltpetre Shanty. It's too similar to the version done by Tourdion at the moment (aside from that whole solo-vocalist thing), so I'm working on that, but I enjoyed the challenge of learning the new music! This weekend, I'm leaning toward a somewhat rougher challenge. Jack Hinks is a song that I've been wanting to try for a while, but it's been a bit daunting for some reason. To hell with it, though - I'm gonna give it a shot. Also coming this season - hopefully - will be Day of the Clipper and Mary Ellen Carter. So yeah - new stuff! |
