Scarborough Faire opens this weekend, and wow, is there a lot to report: Songs in the Key of Sea has been sent to the printers, with the hopes of being ready by this weekend! It's been quite a journey getting this done, and it includes many of my favorite sea-faring songs! |

The new year has come and gone, and now I'm ramping up toward the Scarborough Renaissance Festival this Spring. Here are some of the things you can expect to see this season: - New CDs!
I'm working my way through not one, but two new CDs for this faire season. On tap so far are the long-awaited (seriously, I've been thinking about this CD since before I started performing at faires) Songs in the Key of Sea, a collection of songs sea-faring and nautical. As I said, there's another one in the works, but you guys get to wait to see what's coming for that one. - New Songs!
I've been working on a lot of new material during the break, so expect to see a bunch of it brought out to see the light of day during Scarborough. - Other Stuff!
There's another big surprise coming, but you'll have to come see me at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival to see what I'm talking about!
So until this season kicks off, stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy good times! (I really wanted to say "Stay thirsty, my friends" there....) |

Was speaking with Susan of the Rambling Sailors this weekend, and she mentioned that they are each trying to introduce a new song each weekend. I think that's a grand idea, so - in true Irish fashion - I'm swiping it and giving credit. Since we're at 3 weekends in and I wasn't thinking on it then, I think I'll just make a list of the songs I've added so far: - Phil the Fluther's Ball
- Northwest Passage
- Leaves in the Wind
... ... okay, so I thought there were more than that so far. Anyway, this past weekend was the first weekend I made a concerted effort to add a new song that I hadn't worked on a ton in the past. |

I posted some time ago that I was working on arrangements for a new CD, Songs in the Key of Sea. Truth be told, I'm still working on getting that sorted out. I'm looking to start recording after Scarborough Faire ends this year, with a release sometime this Summer. While I already have a list of songs that I'm working on, if there's something in particular that you want to hear me record, post a comment here, and I'll take a look at it. After all, the point of making CDs is so that people can listen to them and enjoy, and what better way to ensure enjoyment than to know that I'm recording a song that people want to hear? |

This year will be my 3rd year to return to Scarborough Faire's stages as Michael O'Quinn, and I have to say that I'm really looking forward to it. The season has started off well - I returned to the workshops for the Scarborough Academy of Performing Arts (the training for the hard-working street cast of Scarborough), and wow has that been great! I've been challenged by the level of the curriculum presented, but constantly encouraged by the instructor staff to keep working to improve my skills in street theatre and improvisational acting. This year, as last, I'll be performing on several stages. My full schedule is below the jump. |
