3 weekends is far too short a season to spend at Bristol. Some highlights of my (sadly brief) season:
- Getting to see all the musicians I've missed for the past year, and getting to meet some new (to me) folks that made me feel just as 'at home' as any. Thanks guys, you rock.
- The Three Sheets to the Wind stage is a fantastic venue. Turning the stage around did wonders for it, and despite the fact that there's still a fair amount of sun there, it drew some pretty sizeable crowds.
- Getting to tour the Dreadnought. Wow. That's a fantastic ship.
- Finding that I have groupies that will show up even on rainy days and sit and listen, laugh, and generally make merry.
- Listening to Dan practicing the Uilleann pipes backstage. The animals at the petting zoo were going nuts!
- Getting to sit in with so many groups - Bounding Main, the Rambling Sailors, Jesse Linder, the aforementioned Dan the Bard... not to mention the end of the day revel. Thanks for having me, guys.
- Finally getting to hear Bounding Main and Tourdion, of whom I heard so much last year, but sadly, missed. Also, getting to hear Ogham at work. I love the sound!
- Having the tempura there. The full veggie plate, complete with shrimp. Mmmmm....
- Having an audience at the Pig and Whistle that made sea shanties work! Twice! Woot!
- Getting to do an all-request set. Gave my brain a break.
- Fudge shop. Nuff said.
And, of course, a huge thanks to all the guests that came and listened to me. From the first-timer wondering who the weird guy in the kilt was to the diehard out in the rain singing along with each song - thanks. You guys are what makes doing this worthwhile. Thanks for making me feel like a rockstar. |
